Farewell to Mr. Astro
Today the FCBL says goodbye to the only owner and manager the FCBL Houston Astros have know. Bryan Wayt, who owned and managed the Houston Astros since the FCBL's inception, announced his retirement effective immediatly.
Bryan compiled 1,591 wins, a .540 winning percentage and 15 playoff appearances in his 18 seasons.
How closely was Bryan connected with the Astros franchise? The real-life Astros went through two owners, seven general managers (and counting) and seven managers (and counting) during Bryan's reign with the FCBL Astros.
Bryan proved that there are many management styles in this game staying true to his team and building grom within. Not one to go out and make the blockbuster trade he was perhaps known as a manager who gets the most out of the draft. Never having the top picks in the draft he still found talent like Buster Posey and Brian McCann. Year in and year out he fielded a competitive team that the Giants had to account for. Today the league closes the doors on a historic owner.
Farewell to Mr. Astro, and congratulations on an out-of-this-world tenure in the FCBL.
Taking over this proud franchise is none other than former manager Matt Belbin. Feeling that he could not continue in Houston in the footsteps of the FCBL Great he has decided to move the team to Chicago and will resume his FCBL career as the Cubs.
Good Luck to Matt
