Ichiro Suzuki then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jose Reyes was up next and he laced a base-knock. Mariano Rivera was perfect in relief and got the save, his 31st. John Smoltz(2-1) allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Joel Hanrahan(4-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning. FLORIDA AT ST. Florida won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning as they scored 5 runs on 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Guzman who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he cracked a two-run shot (his 8th of the season). St. Louis threatened in the 9th but Florida was able to put down the rally. The victory went to Edwar Ramirez(3-7) who went 2 innings, allowing 2 runs. B.J. Ryan earned his 21st save. Brian Bruney(6-3) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning. That was all the run support Beckett required. Houston totaled 9 hits on the afternoon. Ramon_A Ramirez(9-8) was given the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings. CLEVELAND AT TEXAS Indians......... 1 0 0 2 0 0 1 0 1 - 5 7 0 Rangers......... 5 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 - 7 11 1 Win:Marcum(10-9) Loss:Kuo(13-4) Save:Nelson(9th) Homeruns- C.Davis(9th), C.Lee(28th), J.Cantu(5th), J.Hermida-2(4th) Right fielder Jeremy Hermida launched 2 homeruns and Shaun Marcum dominated striking out 13 Cleveland batters at Ameriquest Field as the Texas Rangers beat the struggling Cleveland Indians 7 to 5. Joe Nelson gained credit for his 9th save. The loss was charged to Hong-Chih Kuo(13-4). He served up 3 homeruns in his 2/3 of an inning. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Marcum offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

NEW YORK AT LOS ANGELES Mets............ 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 4 1 Dodgers......... 3 1 0 1 3 0 0 0 - 8 15 1 Win:Harden(12-4) Loss:Penny(0-3) Homeruns- J.Dye-2(23rd), A.Huff(19th) Jermaine Dye blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Rich Harden mowed down 10 New York batters as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the dreadful New York Mets by a score of 8 to 2. Los Angeles had 15 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Harden(12-4) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Brad Penny(0-3) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings of work. Harden was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. Ramirez was spectacular at the plate. He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 26th of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 2nd inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, delivered a base-hit in the 6th inning and doubled plating three runs in the 7th inning. Washington bats were hot in the 7th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Kansas City to come away with the victory. Brandon Webb(11-9) picked up the victory, allowing 7 runs in 6 innings. Matt Capps was credited with his 4th save. A.J. Burnett(3-14) was the losing pitcher. 'I felt great out there today' Ramirez said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.
