J.P. Howell(2-3) won the game with a masterful relief performance. He did not allow a baserunner in his 1 and 1/3 innings. Both teams totaled 5 hits on the night. Mariano Rivera earned his 35th save. Brandon Webb(11-10) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 8 walks. OAKLAND AT ST. Oakland dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings. The win was credited to Lester(13-4) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs. Edinson Volquez(11-7) was charged with the loss. The big moment was provided by Maicer Izturis who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he lined a one-base hit plating two runs. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The win went to A.J. Burnett(5-14) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Burnett got help from Scott Linebrink who earned his 4th save. Ricky Nolasco(8-11) absorbed the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Kansas City now has a record of 42-79. With the loss Cincinnati now has a record of 52-69.

Saito was credited with his 4th save. John Grabow(3-3) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work.
