The game started off with Washington taking the lead in the first scoring a single run using 3 hits. Washington rapped out 16 hits for the afternoon. The win was credited to Haren(14-5) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Scott Olsen(9-9). He was unable to control the Washington offense and allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. San Francisco went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Nyjer Morgan led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Morgan took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. After an out was recorded, San Francisco continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Milton Bradley was up next and he lined a one-base hit. Kevin Youkilis stepped into the box and doubled. After another out, Lowell came up and he laced a single. San Francisco finished with 11 hits in the victory. The victory was credited to Saunders(13-8) who went the distance, allowing 2 runs. Jarrod Washburn(2-3) ended up with the loss. Joakim Soria gained credit for his 32nd save. Manny Delcarmen(3-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings. Bryan Wayt was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks me off!' Joe Nelson earned the save, his 10th. Kyle Lohse(9-6) absorbed the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 4 and 1/3 innings.

His team allowed 13 runs while Chad Billingsley(12-10), with relief help from Trevor Hoffman, allowed Boston 4 runs in a laugher. The Los Angeles fans enjoyed the offense provided by Aubrey Huff. He doubled in the 4th inning, delivered a single which scored a run in the 5th inning and electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run (his 23rd of the season) in the 8th inning. Boston was out-hit by Los Angeles, 15 hits to 9. Jered Weaver(7-14) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. Atlanta came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by Chipper Jones who silenced Tropicana Field as he laced a one-base hit plating two runs. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Mariano Rivera earned his 37th save. ST. The key offensive moment was provided by Mark Teixeira who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 26th of the season). Although they lost, Kansas City did out-hit St. Louis 15 to 11. James Shields(18-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs.
