Atlanta drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. That was all the runs Oswalt(16-5) needed. Atlanta had a total of 9 hits for the game. Ryan Rowland-Smith(7-13) was the loser. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 5 walks. ST. Washington was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th. Scherzer got help from Joe Nathan who was credited with his 37th save. Ben Sheets(9-9) ended up with the loss. Oakland had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Todd Wellemeyer(4-10) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. B.J. Ryan gained credit for his 25th save. The big moment was provided by Yunel Escobar who electrified Tropicana Field when he doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond. Tampa Bay had 13 hits for the night. The victory went to Ramon Troncoso(4-0) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Joel Hanrahan(4-5) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up just 7 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. San Francisco finished with 11 hits in the victory. Josh Johnson(8-8) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 3 innings of work. 'Everything felt great' Sabathia said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 7 innings of work. 'Zambrano was the man tonight,' Phill Blewett said. 'He had just about every pitch working.'
