St. Louis had 5 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning with the help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Andre Ethier who electrified Busch Stadium when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. St. Louis rapped out 8 hits for the night. The win was credited to James Shields(20-4) who went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs. Joe Nathan earned the save, his 39th. The Texas Rangers topped the Los Angeles Dodgers by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Texas took the lead off Chad Billingsley in the first inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits. Melvin Mora kicked off the action when he lined a base-hit. Hanley Ramirez stepped up next and he laced a single. Prince Fielder then drew a walk to load the bases. Carlos Lee stepped in and he stroked a one-base hit. Ryan Howard was the next batter, but he struck out. Jeremy Hermida kept the inning going and grounded into a double play. Los Angeles had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Armando Galarraga(14-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run. Joe Nelson recorded the save, his 12th. Billingsley(13-11) was the losing pitcher. The Texas ballclub's record now stands at 59-75. With the loss, the Los Angeles ballclub's record is 77-57. Washington won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Nick Markakis slapped a base-hit. Marlon Byrd stepped up to the plate and he laced a base-knock. Carlos Pena then hit a deep fly. Ryan Doumit was up next and he hit a single. Kaz Matsui got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Washington finished with 7 hits in the victory. The win was credited to Haren(15-6) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs. Zack Greinke(9-11) took the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings. Haren was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Lilly(8-12) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings and was touched for 2 homeruns. Tampa Bay finished with just 6 hits in the victory. Scott Linebrink(2-7) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Lilly - except Kansas City.
