Atlanta jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring a single run. Ichiro Suzuki doubled. Jose Reyes followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Carl Crawford then would ground out. Boston scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Gonzalez led off and he delivered a single. Brad Lidge then threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball. J.D. Drew then tripled. The highlight belonged to Elijah Dukes who thrilled the crowd when he blasted a two-run home run (his 8th of the season). New York had 9 hits for the game and Texas had 4. Carlos Zambrano(11-10) allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Zambrano got relief help from Carlos Marmol who gained credit for his 18th save. Jesse Litsch(7-14) was charged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 and 1/3 innings. The New York ballclub's record now stands at 48-90. With the loss, the Texas ballclub's record is 59-79.

Johnson put on a good performance. He surrendered only 5 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. Los Angeles went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. Joakim Soria earned the save, his 35th. With this win, Cleveland has a 79-59 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With this loss, Los Angeles has a 6-4 record of late, 80-58 overall. Ty Wigginton stepped up to the plate and he doubled. B.J. Upton then doubled. Chris Iannetta came up and he was walked intentionally. Henry Blanco was the next batter, but he struck out. The Kansas City bats were silent in the 9th. Guthrie(12-12), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ryan Rowland-Smith(8-14) took the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. 'We didn't have a whole lot of chances today,' Jason Blue said. 'Guthrie just was too much for our guys.'
