Olivo enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 18th of the season) in the 8th inning. Cincinnati managed 13 hits in their victory. The win was credited to David Weathers(3-1) who went 3 innings allowing 1 run. John Lackey(8-14) was the loser. He was knocked around by Houston, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Beckett didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?' Boston had 9 hits in the game while Chicago had 6, but Chicago had the more timely hits. Ramon_A Ramirez(11-9) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Frank Francisco earned his 12th save. Jason Bergmann(6-17) was hit with the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work. He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.'

Cleveland jumped on top to stay in the 2nd inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Nate McLouth began the Cleveland spurt when he doubled. Mike Aviles stepped into the batter's box and he laced a one-base hit. Dejesus then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 13th of the season). After another out, Jim Thome was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Cleveland out-hit New York for the game, 11 hits to 7. Jose Arredondo(7-5) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Joakim Soria recorded the save, his 36th. Brad Penny(1-8) was charged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit in the 3rd inning and clubbed a three-run home run (his 33rd of the season) in the 7th inning. Oakland finished with 11 hits while Washington ended up with 7. The victory was credited to Geoff Geary(6-2) who went 3 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run. Guillermo Mota was credited with his 2nd save. The Kansas City Royals snapped a 5 game losing streak and won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Kansas City ended up winning it in the 13th inning. Jason Bartlett ripped a base-knock. Willy Taveras stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Akinori Iwamura then smacked a single making Kansas City victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Justin Miller(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Brian Fuentes(1-4) was the losing pitcher in relief. Jason Blue was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back.
