The Atlanta Braves eventually emerged as victors over the Houston Astros by the score of 3 to 1. Hamels had a solid outing for Atlanta. He was reached for 6 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 43rd save. Oakland scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Matt Kemp led off and started the rally when he ripped a base-knock. Jarrod Saltalamacchia came to the plate and grounded into a double play. Wigginton then drew a walk. Josh Willingham stepped in and he doubled. Dustin Pedroia stepped into the box and was walked intentionally. Edwin Encarnacion added to the rally and stroked a one-base hit. Both teams totaled 9 hits on the afternoon. Octavio Dotel(4-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Dotel got help from Guillermo Mota who earned his 3rd save. The losing pitcher was Lance Cormier(0-3) in relief. Harden(18-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Tampa Bay batters. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. Harden chalked up 11 strikeouts. The right-handed Harden lost his no-hit bid when Robinson Cano singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again. Scott Kazmir(2-14) was charged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 8 innings. 'He had his 'A' game today,' Bill Toth said of Harden. 'Very impressive performance.'

New York wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. Kansas City made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Brad Penny(2-8) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Carlos Marmol earned the save, his 21st. A.J. Burnett(5-17) absorbed the loss. Despite the loss, he struckout 11 New York batters in 8 innings. Jason Blue was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks me off!' CHICAGO AT ST.
