Oakland drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits. That early scoring was all that Lester needed. New York was out-hit by Oakland, 14 hits to 5. The loss was charged to Brad Penny(2-9). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 12 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.

Mike Napoli stepped up next and he banged out a single. Angel Pagan then laid down a sacrifice bunt. David Dejesus followed and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.
