Atlanta scored 5 runs in the top of the 3rd inning with the help of 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Alex Rodriguez who silenced the crowd when he rifled a three-run blast (his 37th of the season). Chicago threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put down the rally. Matt Garza(16-5) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Garza got help from Mariano Rivera who earned his 46th save. Dan Giese(7-12) was given the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. ST. He slapped a single in the 3rd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 4th inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun (his 32nd of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis had 17 hits for the night. Buehrle(17-8) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. Brad Ziegler(7-4) took the loss in relief. He gave up 10 runs and 6 hits in 1 inning. It was a good day for San Francisco thanks to Youkilis. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 2nd inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 27th of the season) in the 4th inning. Offensively, San Francisco was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings. Dempster(8-14) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Joe Blanton(5-11) was tagged with the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 6 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Dempster offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Westbrook(13-7) delivered a fine performance for Houston. He was reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings and allowed 3 gopher balls. Houston finished with 10 hits in the victory. Mike Mussina(15-9) absorbed the loss. He gave up 6 hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Los Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The victory was credited to John Lannan(8-10) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run. Lannan got help from Scott Linebrink who was credited with his 5th save. Matt Cain(12-12) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Kansas City, allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Guillermo Mota(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Mota got relief help from Octavio Dotel who gained credit for his 7th save. Russ Springer(6-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
