The Atlanta Braves edged the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium by the score
of 2 to 1.
The game was decided in the 8th inning. Carlos Beltran doubled. Russell
Martin stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Ichiro
Suzuki then hit a deep fly. Jose Reyes came up and he banged out a single.
Reyes was safe at second on a stolen base. St. Louis had a chance in the 9th
but they came up short.
The victory went to J.P. Howell(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Mariano Rivera was credited with his 3rd save. Max Scherzer(0-1) was
given the loss. He surrendered 6 hits and no walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
