I vote for Schmidt
By most measures, you would pick Schmidt. There's a relatively new stat called win shares that I really like that measures how many wins a player produces for his team. I like this stat because it rewards players who contribute to good teams and punishes players who put up big numbers for crappy teams. Anyway, Schmidt and Brett are the top two third basemen of all time based on win shares. Schmidt is credited with 468 wins. Brett is credited with 432 wins. Under certain circumstances you might pick Brett - let's say you were putting together a team and you needed a 3rd baseman to hit second; then you should pick Brett. But under most circumstances, your choice would be Michael Jack.

Post
I agree with Thome and Ichiro - the post should not have been removed. If a manager has a beef with the league, they should be allowed to bring that beef forward. It is not up to the commissioner to censor the thoughts and opinions of the league managers. “Pontius Pilate was the first great censor and Jesus Christ the first great victim of censorship”
