Ken Griffey Jr.
Hall of Fame · 2012Griffey did not have the greatest batting average for what would be considered a Hall of Famer, he more than made up for it with superb defense. Griffey played for numerous managers in his career but had the most success with Bill Toth and his LA Dodgers. Griffey hit 171 of his 426 HR with Toth and the Dodgers. Griffey won 5 championships including one with the Dodgers. For his career, Griffey hit .248, had 426 HR (8th all time), 1174 RBIs (9th all time) and a .825 OPS. Griffey was an even better teammate according to longtime manager Toth: “Legend. There’s nothing else to be said. Set the example for my young guys every year we had him. First to arrive, last to leave. No question, my favorite player of all time.” Toth wouldn’t comment on rumors of a statue being constructed in Griffey’s honor, would only say that Griffey “will receive the proper tribute a player of his caliber deserves”. Griffey will obviously enter the Hall of Fame as a Los Angeles Dodger. Congrats to both Griffey and manager Toth.
